Bookmaker Ratings prediction two: Team Goals – Monchengladbach to Score Over 1.5 Goals – 1.57
Monchengladbach to Win
Winless in three, the hosts need a win, and this match represents the perfect opportunity for them to get a big three points. Neither side has been defending well, but Gladbach have an ability to both create chances and score goals that Hertha simply don’t. While the visitors have scored nine goals in 12 away games, the hosts have scored 21 goals in 12 home matches. Throw in that Hutter’s men average 1.88 expected goals for at home, compared to the 0.98 averaged by Hertha on the road, and a home win is on the cards.
Monchengladbach to Score Over 1.5 Goals
One thing this Gladbach can do is hurt teams and score goals. They notched twice last time out, scoring at least twice in three of their last four. They’ve also scored two or more in five of their last eight at home. Combine this with the fact that the visitors have shipped five in their last two away games, conceding two or more in six of their last seven, and home goals become hard to go against.
Things went from bad to worse for Monchengladbach last weekend, as they came unstuck away against Stuttgart. Despite racing into a 0-2 lead on their travels, Adi Hutter’s men left Mercedes-Benz Arena empty handed, losing by three goals to two. Not for the first time this season, or this month, Gladbach paid the price for being defensively insecure.
Their form at home isn’t exactly inspiring either. On the one hand, they’re unbeaten in two at Borussia Park, but on the other hand, they’ve won just one of their last six matches in front of a home crowd, four of which they’ve lost. Hutter has also watched his side concede two or more in each of the six at Borussia Park, and in truth, few Bundesliga teams have looked weaker defensively since the turn of the year.
Fortunately for the hosts, the Hertha Berlin boys are in a similar predicament. They conceded plenty of goals en route to defeat last time out, losing by four goals to one at home to Frankfurt. That result marked four defeats on the spin for Tayfun Korkut’s men, who haven’t tasted victory since before Christmas.
Playing away from their home of the Olympiastadion has brought Saturday’s visitors very little joy in recent months. They’ve lost each of their last two on the road, while they’ve gone seven away games without a win, five of which they’ve lost. What’s really worrying is the fact that they’ve scored just one goal in their last four travelling fixtures.
At a much bigger price, ‘Monchengladbach Clean Sheet’ may just be worth a go. Yes, the hosts have been very weak at the back, and yes, they’re without a clean sheet since November 2021, but they’re up against one of the worst travelling attacks in the division. The visitors have scored just one goal in their last four road games, and have failed to score in a whopping 58% of their travelling matches this term.
Jonas Hofmann is expected to miss out for the hosts, as is Lars Stindl. Alexander Schwolow remains doubtful for the visitors, alongside Marton Dardai.
Monchengladbach: Sommer, Ginter, Elvedi, Beyer, Lainer, Kramer, Neuhaus, Bensebaini, Embolo, Plea, Thuram.
Hertha Berlin: Lotka, Pekarik, Boyata, Kempf, Mittelstadt, Darida, Tousart, Lee, Serdar, Richter, Jovetic.
Allassane Plea
Frencham Alassane Plea returned to the scoresheet last weekend, notching his fifth goal of the season. The forward also has five assists to his name, averaging 0.64 goals and assists per 90 minutes. On Saturday evening, against a weak visiting side, one of Gladbach’s chief threats is expected to thrive.
Earlier in the campaign, Hertha Berlin won by a goal to nil.
