Bookmaker Ratings prediction one: Double Chance – Draw or West Ham – 1.83

Bookmaker Ratings prediction two:  Correct Score – Manchester United 2-2 West Ham – 13.0

Bookmaker Ratings prediction three:  West Ham +1.0 Goal – 1.8

West Ham Double Chance

West Ham won 1-0 when they last visited Old Trafford for a Carabao Cup clash in September and the Hammers can approach Saturday’s game in Manchester with confidence as a result. United have already dropped points in 50% of their Premier League home matches this term and they look vulnerable enough to slip up again.

Manchester United 2-2 West Ham

With five goals in their last two Premier League outings, Man Utd’s attacking play has improved of late, though the Red Devils still look uncertain defensively and West Ham – who have notched at least twice in each of their last six assignments – are dangerous enough to match their hosts in the final third.

Handicap: West Ham +1.0 Goal

West Ham have scored six more Premier League goals than Manchester United this season and the Irons knack for finding the net makes them an outstanding candidate in the handicap market at the Theatre of dreams. West Ham at +1.0 goal would have landed in three of their last four away tests and the same line appeals at the prices on offer on Saturday.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Manchester United vs West Ham

David Moyes takes West Ham back to his old, if brief, stomping ground on Saturday, aiming to mastermind a second victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford this season.

If the Irons are looking for good omens, then there are plenty to choose from this weekend. The Red Devils have dropped points in 50% of their league games in Manchester this term, while their performance at Brentford on Wednesday had all the hallmarks of a team still finding its feet under new management.

A second-half three-goal flurry allowed United to eventually overcome the Bees in a 3-1 victory, though they needed David de Gea’s reflexes to keep them level in a first half that Brentford dominated.

West Ham meanwhile, had their three-game winning streak halted by Leeds last weekend in a surprised 3-2 triumph for the Yorkshire men in London – a result that leaves the Irons clinging to fourth spot by their fingernails.

Tottenham, Arsenal and Saturday’s opponents, Manchester United, are all closing in on David Moyes’ side, though we’re tipping the Irons to keep the Mancunians at arm’s length this weekend.

Ralf Rangnick’s United are still conceding far too many chances – indeed, they shipped a whopping 50 attempts in their last three league fixtures alone – and West Ham have the quality in the final third to capitalise on any chances presented to them.

At close to evens, West Ham are available at too good a price to turn down in the double chance market this weekend and further misery for Man Utd at Old Trafford is anticipated.

Simon Winter prediction

Manchester United have been pretty comprehensively outplayed by just about every opponent they’ve faced in recent weeks and while they have still managed to scrape some decent results together, they could well toil against West Ham. The tactically disciplined Irons have lost just three times in 11 fixtures on the road this season and in Michail Antonio and Jarod Bowen in particular, they wield two attacking weapons that their hosts could struggle to contain.

SAFE BETS

Both teams to score has landed in 62% of Man Utd’s league games in 2021/22 and in 68% West Ham’s Premier League fixtures during the same period. Both teams have also scored in three of their last four league encounters between the clubs and we recommend considering a safe move in the same market at 1.67 this weekend.

GET QUICK RICH

West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen is in electric form at present and the wide attacker has notched three times in his last two league outings. It’s worth noting that Bowen racked up ten attempts in those appearances combined, hitting the target with his efforts on four occasions. At a generous-looking 3.3, you can back Bowen to muster at least one shot on target at Old Trafford.

Manchester United vs West Ham first goalscorer

West Ham’s Michail Antonio is a real handful for any defender and the striker’s clever moment and rapid pace could unsettle Man Utd’s rearguard early on at Old Trafford. Four of Antonio’s eight Premier League goals this season were openers for the Irons and at 8.0, the 31-year-old represents excellent value in the first goalscorer stakes again.

Manchester United vs West Ham Team News

Paul Pogba and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are both still sidelined for Man Utd, while Jesse Lingard isn’t expected to be risked with a move to Newcastle imminent. Luke Shaw could return to the XI in place of Alex Telles. Anthony Elanga should keep his place after his goal against Brentford.

Angelo Ogbonna is a long-term absentee for West Ham, though Tomas Soucek should make a welcome return to midfielder following his positive COVID test. The Irons are certain to stick to their favoured 4-2-3-1 formation at Old Trafford.

Starting Lineups

Manchester United: De Gea – Dalot, Lindelof, Varane, Shaw – Fred, McTominay, Fernandes – Greenwood, Elanga, Ronaldo

West Ham: Fabianski – Coufal, Dawson, Diop, Cresswell – Soucek, Rice, Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals – Antonio

Highlighted Player

Declan Rice

Declan Rice has long been touted as a possible transfer target for Manchester United and the England international will be determined to impress his potential suitors this weekend. Rice has the ability to dominate his midfield counterparts at Old Trafford so expect to see the 23-year-old heavily involved in the action.
