Five-star Liverpool
Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa made life difficult for the Reds, but they prevailed thanks to Mohamed Salah’s 67th minute penalty, recording their second 1-0 win in a row and fifth win in five in league action.
By the time Liverpool face Newcastle on Thursday night, they will be four points off top spot with Manchester City beating Leeds United on Tuesday night 7-0.
However, with the Reds on such form they should be very confident about taking all three points against a Newcastle side coming off a heavy defeat to Leicester.

Crashing back down to Earth
After finally winning their first match of the season a week gone Saturday, it was back to Earth with a thud as a Leicester side without Jamie Vardy crushed Newcastle 4-0.
You would think it couldn’t get any worse than that but the Toon travel to face a Liverpool side more than capable of equalling Leicester’s efforts before then facing a Man City side on Sunday, fresh off annihilating Leeds.
The January transfer window can’t come quick enough for Newcastle, the only comfort at the moment is the sides around them simply can’t win either.
Liverpool vs Newcastle United predictions
After Newcastle’s capitulation on Sunday, we can only see one result which is a Liverpool win. The reds are priced at 1/9 which realistically is probably fair, but this won’t win you much money.
It is difficult to find value bets in Liverpool matches given the form Liverpool are on currently, however, given that Liverpool have kept clean sheets in their last five home wins in all competitions, the 7/10 price on Liverpool to win to nil looks good value.
Liverpool are the league’s top scorers with 45 goals so far, 21 of these have come in the first half, 24 have come in the second half. Given the balanced scoring in each half it is very possible Liverpool could win both halves, this is priced at 10/11.

Liverpool team news
Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones remain out. However, Roberto Firmino is nearing a return from his thigh injury and is contention to make the matchday squad. Divock Origi missed the Aston Villa match with a knee injury, but he could also be fit for this one.
Newcastle United team news
The only absentee is defender Paul Dummett who has not yet played this season.
However, after last weekend’s loss, head coach Eddie Howe could ring the changes.
