Late heroics from Origi
After scoring four goals in each of their three games prior to last Saturday’s visit to Wolves, Liverpool was kept to just one very late stoppage time goal scored by Divock Origi.
Wolves were expected to keep things very tight and present more of a challenge to Liverpool’s attack than their previous opponents but ultimately the Reds prevailed.
That was Liverpool’s fourth straight league win and the midweek away 2-1 win over AC Milan – where Origi again scored the winner – made it Liverpool’s sixth straight in all competitions.

Gerrard returns to Anfield
It will be an emotional return to Liverpool for Villa boss Steven Gerrard who spent all but the last two years of his playing career at Anfield.
Gerrard makes his managerial debut at Anfield in just his fifth Premier League match with Villa. So far, he has won three of his first four matches and lifted Villa from relegation trouble into 10th spot, nine points away from the relegation zone.
After suffering his first defeat to Manchester City at home, Gerrard and Villa did well to bounce back in last Sunday’s 2-1 come from behind win against Leicester City. There will be no room for sentiment from either side.
Liverpool vs Aston Villa predictions
Liverpool are relentless at the moment and despite Villa’s turn in fortunes since Gerrard was appointed as manager we can’t see anything other than a Liverpool win.
However, the short 2/9 price is prohibitive, and we prefer to back – due to Liverpool’s league best first half performances and Aston Villa being second from last in first half performance – Liverpool half-time, Liverpool full-time.
Due to the number of goals Liverpool score, over 2.5 goals is also a short price at 2/5. However, over 3.5 goals occurs in Liverpool matches at almost double the rate of the league average. This is priced at Evens, and we predict this will happen.
