Nadal, meanwhile, has only managed to play in two tournaments before Roland Garros. Rafa missed a month and a half due to a stress fracture of a rib.
Immediately after the unpleasant injury, Nadal won two matches at the Masters in Madrid. In the quarter-finals, Nadal lost to eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz (2-6, 6-1, 3-6). The young Spaniard played a much better third set than Nadal.
In Rome, Nadal only made it one round. After beating John Isner (6-3, 6-1), he unexpectedly lost to Denis Shapovalov (6-1, 5-7, 2-6).
However, it was not really a sensation. The fact is that in the third set Rafa had trouble moving around the court because of a foot injury that caused him to miss almost half of last season.
This injury is chronic and it could be the main obstacle for Nadal on his way to another title in Paris.
