Andreescu made a successful return to the tour and deservedly reached the quarterfinals in Rome. However, it is clearly still too early for the Canadian tennis player to compete on equal terms with world #1.
In the last three winning matches, Swiatek has not allowed her opponents to take more than five games.
Swiatek seems to have settled at the top of the ranking for a long time. At least for now, it is hard to see who can move her from the top spot any time soon.
Before the Rome tournament, Swiatek won four titles in a row – in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami and Stuttgart. An absolutely incredible series. In most of the matches, there was not even a hint that Iga Swiatek could lose.

It’s very likely that Swiatek would have been the champion in Madrid too, but she didn’t go there because of a shoulder injury.
Judging from the first matches this week, nothing is bothering Iga now. After a resounding victory over Elena Gabriela-Ruse (6-3, 6-0), the world’s #1 easily beat Victoria Azarenka (6-4, 6-1).
Swiatek’s winning streak now stands at 25 matches.
Bianca Andreescu:
Bianca Andreescu, meanwhile, is playing better and better with each match. It looks like she has finally managed to get rid of the problems that caused her to lose a year and a half.
At the beginning of the month, Biancha’s main achievement was a brilliant victory over Danielle Collins (6-1, 6-1) in the second round of the Madrid tournament. After that, though, she lost to Jessica Pegula (5-7, 1-6).
Andreescu on Swiatek: “She’s playing great tennis. I really admire her success. But I’m very excited to player her. I love the challenge.”

In Rome, Andreescu started with a victory over Emma Raducanu (6-2, 2-1). Raducanu gave up the first set almost without a struggle and at the beginning of the second set, she withdrew due to injury. In the second round, Andreescu beat Nuria Parrizas-Diaz (6-3, 7-6) and in the third against Petra Martic (6-4, 6-4).
