Rune reached the fourth round of the Grand Slam for the first time in his career. It was only his third time playing in the main draw of a major.
The 19-year-old Rune’s success is hardly a surprise, though. He will now be remembered more and more. This is another talent who will be at least a top-20 player in the near future.
A month ago, Rune won a tournament in Munich. He defeated Alexander Zverev (6-3, 6-2) in the second round. The week before Roland Garros, Holger reached the semi-finals in Lyon, where he lost to Cameron Norrie (2-6, 7-5, 4-6).
In Paris, Rune started with a solid win over Denis Shapovalov (6-3, 6-1, 7-6). The Canadian did not take a single set.
Holger also defeated Henri Laaksonen (6-2, 6-3, 6-3) in the second round and Hugo Gaston (6-3, 6-3, 6-3) in the third.
Rune has not yet lost a single set at this Roland Garros.
He has played 27 games on clay this season and has 20 wins.

Tsitsipas, meanwhile, reached the second week of Roland Garros for the fourth time in a row.
In the third round, Stefanos scored a confident win over Mikael Ymer (6-2, 6-2, 6-1). The match lasted just an hour and a half.
Tsitsipas had a tough match against Zdanek Kolar (6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6) in the second round. Here, Stefanos had to be on the court for more than four hours.
That’s not the worst of it, by the way. In the fourth set, as everyone was already preparing for the show to continue, Tsitsipas played a four-set ball. “He drove me crazy. It was very hard – he was dragging everything,” Tsitsipas said after beating Kolar.
That’s not the only drama involving Tsitsipas at the current tournament. In the first round, Stefanos lost to Lorenzo Muzetti 0-2 in sets, but he eventually got a comeback (5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2).
Tsitsipas has played two of his last three matches at this tournament in four or more sets.
