This League Two match sees relegation-threatened Hartlepool United host automatic promotion hopefuls Plymouth Argyle at Victoria Park.

Hartlepool are on a wretched run at the moment with just one point taken from a possible 12 in their last four league games. This means that, although they are three places above the relegation zone, they are just two points above that dreaded 23rd place.

Dave Jones has only been at the club for a few matches but it has not been a happy start to his reign and he has been unable to sort out their defensive frailties which means that Hartlepool still have the second-worst defensive record in the league with an alarming 55 conceded in just 31 games, keeping just six clean sheets.

Jones has also been unable to change Hartlepool’s fortunes away from home and the former Wolves manager has lost all three of his away matches as Pool boss meaning that they’ve taken just 13 points from 16 games away from Victoria Park.

Plymouth are fighting it out at the other end of the table and after a good recent run, as well as Doncaster’s poor form, Argyle are just three points off top spot. Perhaps more importantly though is that they are eight points ahead of the play-off places and so automatic promotion looks all but certain.

Derek Adams’ men have been effective in both boxes with 50 goals scored and just 33 against in 30 matches. Furthermore, they have kept clean sheets in two of their last three matches as well as scoring three.

Argyle have been quite inconsistent on their travels in recent weeks with no consecutive wins in the league since November last year. However, they do still have the second-best away record in the league with 30 points in just 14 matches, conceding just 11 goals.

Plymouth are the undoubtedly favourites here which means that the odds are really against the away side. However, there would appear to be plenty of value in ‘Plymouth to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ at 11/10. Hartlepool look all over the place at the back at the moment. A Plymouth side who’ve scored at least twice in three of their last five, should be capable of giving the home team a hard time here.
