Cerundolo, meanwhile, has never won more than one match since winning the tournament in Bostad and reaching the semi-finals in Hamburg.
In principle, this is no surprise. Francisco is indeed easier to play on clay than on a hard court.
That said, it’s still worth noting that Cerundolo made it past the first round in recent tournaments in Gijon, Antwerp and Vienna. In the first two, he was stopped by Dominic Thiem and Jannik Sinner.
Cerundolo has only managed to win more than one hard-court match this season in Miami. Strangely enough, here he reached the semi-finals.
