Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction One – Handicap (-2) for Paul – 1.84.
Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction Two – Total Games Under 23 – 1.83.
Evans certainly deserves praise. He defeated Rublev and Fritz in Montreal, who were the clear favourites. Nevertheless, we believe that Daniel’s tournament journey will end there. Paul was very good here, getting past Carlos Alcaraz and Cilic with his attacking tennis.
The only head-to-head encounter between the two men has been a long game, but we believe that the upcoming encounter will follow a different scenario. Paul is in great form, as evidenced by his victories over Carlos Alcaraz and Cilic. So, we expect Paul to win this match in two sets.
Evans is having a classy tournament, definitely one of his best this season. He has won three matches in a row on hard court for the first time this year.
A surprising success considering who Dan has beaten in previous rounds. He had a fun match against Filip Krajinovic (6-2, 1-6, 6-0) in his first match. After taking the first set 6-2, Evans dropped the second set 1-6. In the deciding set, he did not surrender a single game to Filip.
Next came a victory over Andrey Rublev (6-4, 6-4). Andrey was furious throughout the match as he could not find any weaknesses in his play of Evans.
His success against Rublev was not by chance. Evans defeated Taylor Fritz (7-6, 1-6, 7-5) in the third round. Dan lost the second set with a bang, but in the deciding set, he again played almost perfectly, managing to convert two break points.
Evans has lost 5 times in his last 8 quarter-final fixtures.
Paul, meanwhile, was the author of a major sensation. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz (6-7, 7-6, 6-3) in the second round.
This is an absolutely incredible achievement. Tommy lost the first set on a tie-break, in the second set he first lost 1:4, then led 5:4 and eventually won the set ball on a tie-break.
In the deciding set, Paul allowed Alcaraz to take only three games. The events of the second set seemed to be a big shock to Carlos.
By the way, this was Paul’s third win of the season against a top-10 opponent.
It was no surprise then that Tommy easily defeated Marin Cilic (6-4, 6-2) in the third round.
Paul has won 4 of the last 7 meetings with the top 50.
In 3 of Paul’s last 5 matches, more than 9.5 games have been played in the first set․ We offer to bet on “1st Set Games – Over 9.5” with odds of 1.60.
Evans has played three tie-breaks in his last five games. We offer to bet on “Tie-Break – Yes” with odds of 2.04.
