These two former Premier League sides have started the Championship campaign in completely different fashions. 1995 Premiership champions Blackburn Rovers currently sit at the foot of the league with just a solitary point whereas Fulham are flying high in fifth as they look to mount a promotion campaign.
It has been downhill for Blackburn ever since Indian chicken gurus Venky’s took ownership of the club in November 2010. Since then they have lost their regular spot in the top flight and accumulated a vast amount of debt which has resulted in a fire sale of players. Defender Shane Duffy is the latest to leave as he departs for Brighton.
Fans are already calling for the head of their new manager Owen Coyle after this disastrous start to the campaign. Obviously this is rather premature but it just shows the frustration that Rovers fans are enduring right now.
Fulham owner Shahid Khan has had his critics during his time at the club but most of the protestations have been put to one side for now as the Whites have made a very pleasing start in the Championship this season. Their win against recently-relegated Newcastle on the Championship’s opening night set the standard for Slavisa Jokanovic’s Cottagers and they have done well ever since.
Although the west London side stuttered to a couple of draws in the league recently, they managed to overturn Premier League Middlesbrough on Wednesday night in the League Cup. I hope you followed my tip on that one!
This match is really only going one way and I am surprised with the odds available on a Fulham win. 3/2 is quite frankly ridiculous and punters must take advantage of this.
