Bookmaker Ratings prediction one: Both Teams to Score – YES – 1.85
Bookmaker Ratings prediction two: Draw No Bet – Augsburg – 2.25
Both Teams to Score
Augsburg’s recent scoring form at home makes for pleasing reading. The hosts have notched at least once in each of their last nine at WWK Arena. Unfortunately, they’ve conceded in seven of those nine. Similarly, Freiburg have scored a solid average of 1.45 goals on the road. They’ve surrendered an average of 1.18, which isn’t terrible, though they’ve started to struggle for clean sheets of late, conceding in five of their last six overall. Both teams have scored in 70% of Augbsurg’s home matches this season.
Augsburg Draw No Bet
To put it simply, the hosts warrant more respect ahead of this fixture, and thus a punt on ‘Augsburg Draw No Bet’ at the current odds offers some value. Only one team has gone to WWK Arena and returned with all three points since August, and if we consider this in conjunction with Freiburg’s recent struggles, especially on the road, then it’s not at all difficult to side with the hosts at an eye-catching price.
After regaining the winning thread against Union Berlin, winning at this venue in pleasing fashion, the Augsburg boys would’ve been hoping to pick up a positive result on the road last weekend, but it wasn’t to be as they came off second best in Monchengladbach, losing by three goals to two. While their offensive endeavour was impressive, they lacked solidity at the back, something that will need to be addressed somewhat sharpish.
At home, the hosts have been quite tough to get the better of in recent times, losing none of their last three, suffering defeat in just one of their last eight at WWK Arena. What’s more, they’ve picked up results against some strong sides during that time, either winning or drawing against RB Leipzig, Union Berlin and Bayern Munich, all of whom, like Freiburg, are currently inside the top half.
It was also something of a disappointing afternoon for Christian Streich’s men last Saturday. Despite having plenty in favour at home to Mainz, they slipped behind early doors and could never fully recover, eventually struggling their way to a 1-1 draw. Such a result doesn’t exactly point towards success here, neither does their recent away record.
The visitors arrive at this junction having lost two away games on the bounce, while they’ve won just one of their last six away from the comforts of home. Two of their last three defeats have come against bottom-half opposition.
If you’re looking for something with a bit more meat on the bone, then give the hosts a try in the win/draw/win market. They’re coming off a solid victory when last in action here, while the visitors have started to make a habit of coming up short, losing each of their last two against bottom-half sides on the road.
Augsburg are without the services of Robert Gumny and Tobias Strobl. The visitors are expected to be without Keven Schlotterbeck.
Augsburg: Gikiewicz, Framberger, Gouweleeuw, Oxford, Iago, Hahn, Moravek, Dorsch, Vargas, Niederlechner, Gregoritsch.
Freiburg: Flekken, Kubler, Lienhart, Gulde, Gunter, Sallai, Eggestein, Hofler, Grifo, Jeong, Holer.
Florian Niederlechner
The 31-year-old continues to be a key player for Markus Weinzierl, who has a player averaging 0.55 expected goals and assists per 90 minutes at his disposal. Having regained full fitness recently, Augsburg’s number seven can be the difference maker here.
Earlier in the campaign, Freiburg beat Augsburg by three goals to nil.
This fixture takes place at WWK Arena.
