Arminia comes into this fixture struggling, there are no two ways about it. The hosts are down in 17th position and are already a massive nine points from safety. It’s early days but the signs so far point firmly towards the boys from Schuco Arena making a return to the second division.
Sometimes when teams struggle, home can be a place of solace, but that’s not really the case for Michael Frontzeck’s men, who’ve collected just three points from six matches on their own patch. Away-day struggles
Fortunately for the hosts, Wolfsburg hasn’t exactly been a side full of life on the road in recent weeks. Yes, Saturday’s visitors have nine travelling points to their name, which makes them the fourth-best away team in the Bundesliga, but they arrive here having lost two of their last three away from the comforts of home.
Then again, Florian Kohfeldt’s men got the better of fellow top-six team Leverkusen in their last away match, which should have given them a very real confidence boost. And let’s be honest, they ought to fancy themselves to get the better of opposition that continues to flounder at this level.
Wolfsburg haven’t been at their best on the road of late, losing two out of three, but they made a timely return to winning ways when last in away-day action, beating a side that is somewhat superior to Saturday’s hosts.
The gap in quality between this pair is evident, and realistically, it’s hard to see beyond the visitors, who average 1.8 points per game away from home, compared to the 0.5 points collected on average at home by Arminia.
Moreover, Wolfsburg has an excellent record against teams currently in the bottom eight this season, winning four out of five, while the hosts are without a win against top-seven opposition, losing three and drawing one.
