Fabio Fognini has to dig deep to get past this round

It hasn’t been the best of seasons so far for Fabio Fognini. The Italian is on a 15-14 win/loss record and before playing in Wimbledon he played only in Eastbourne on grass and lost in the second round to Marin Cilic making his tally on grass this year 3-1 including Wimbledon.

In the first round, the Italian beat clay specialist Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three sets in just over two hours. The second-round match was tricky for Fognini as he lost his focus after winning the opening two sets. He lost the third 6-0 after a dreadful display but held his ground in the fourth and finished it 6-4.

Fognini can be very temperamental and lose focus in a match at any time. He has the ability to find incredible angles off his groundstrokes and likes to dictate the rallies. But lacks a big serve and his temper tends to control his game often.

The Russian is the better player in terms of serve and forehand and those are key weapons to possess on grass. Fognini is one of the best returners but he hasn’t played against big servers yet.
