Just a few days after her success in Istanbul, Potapova qualified for Madrid. In the decisive round of qualification, she defeated Kristina Mladenovic (6-2, 6-0). Remarkably, Potapova won 23 consecutive points in that match.
Before her triumph in Istanbul, Potapova had only managed to make it past the first round in two tournaments.
