After the first leg of this semi-final finished 0-0 at Balaídos, these two remain deadlocked and both very much still in with a shout of a place in the Copa del Rey final.
Having drawn away from home, perhaps it is Alavés who’re feeling better about their position in this tie, although they will know that all it takes to put them on the back foot is a single Celta Vigo goal.
As was the case in last week’s encounter, it’s fancied that both of these two will be focusing on avoiding defeat rather than being overly expansive in an effort to win the game, at least in the early parts of the contest.
At odds of 17/10, ‘Under 1.5 Goals’ catches the eye here. The fact these two are both just as alive as the other in this tie could encourage a rather tentative, cagey affair. Neither will want to give anything away and thus a high-scoring encounter doesn’t look all that likely.
Keeping things low-key at home isn’t exactly a notion that is unknown to the hosts. In the league this season, 50% of Alavés’ home matches have seen less two goals go in, while they’ve kept a clean sheet in 40% of their fixtures on home soil. Digging deep and remaining compact is a style that Mauricio Pellegrino’s side often adopt and they’re strongly fancied to go down this route against Vigo on Wednesday.
Celta are certainly known as a bit more of an attacking side, but, under the right circumstances, they too are capable of being part of a reasonably dull affair. Having kept a clean sheet in 40% of their away matches, Eduardo Berizzo’s team have failed to score in 30% of their La Liga matches on the road. Given what’s at stake here, the visitors are likely to be far more cautious than they would in a regular league match.
Much like it was last week when these two faced each other, goals are expected to be few and far between at Mendizorrotza.
