The first fixture in this post-Soviet clash saw the Georgian side come out with a 2-0 victory. The Armenian champions will of course be looking to turn this result around at home and will likely come out on the front foot to try and secure an early goal.
Dinamo Tbilisi have won their domestic league a record 16 times but have failed to make it to the group stages of any European competition since the UEFA Cup in the 2004/05 season. However, they know that this is a good chance to get to the third qualifying round.
Alashkert were the surprise champions of the Armenian Premier League last season although they have made excellent progress since their promotion from the second-tier in 2013. They were in the Europa League qualifiers last season but were knocked out in the second round by Kairat of Kazakhstan. Abraham Khashmanyan’s side have already come through a qualifying round in the Champions League this season but they face a daunting task against Tbilisi.
As previously mentioned, Alashkert are likely to try and secure an early goal which would give them a fighting chance of going through. However, I think the Georgians will still come out on top as they are clearly the better side – despite being away from home. Dinamo Tbilisi to win is 13/10 with 888Sport and looks a good bet.
