Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag signed Wout Weghorst from Besiktas on loan and the forward has revealed why the Dutchman signed him.

Weghorst will spend the second half of the season on loan at Man United, after he finished the first half of the season on loan at Besiktas from Burnley.

The Netherlands international is clear on why Ten Hag signed him at Manchester United, thanks to his style of play.

Weghorst admitted that Ten Hag needs a player that can press up front and recover the ball in the final third and he confirmed that he’s that kind of player the former Ajax boss was in search for.

“I think that [pressing] is something that’s one of my strengths,” Weghorst told MU. “Especially without the ball, to put pressure on an opponent [and] be active. That’s something I am capable of and that’s also something in the way the trainer [Ten Hag] wants to play.

“He [Ten Hag] wants to play aggressive; he wants to go high on the pitch, try to recover the ball there, as quickly as possible, and I think I can help the team with that.

“I’m really looking forward to contributing and working together [with Ten Hag].”
