Alexis Mac Allister’s father believes his son will have ‘possibilities’ in the transfer market this summer, but believes it will take a massive bid to convince Brighton to let him go.

The 24-year-old was gaining a reputation at the Seagulls, but that steady growth exploded in Qatar when Argentina won the World Cup.

The midfielder has become a key target for major clubs and will be again this summer, with Chelsea and Arsenal among those interested, while others across Europe will be keeping an eye on the situation.

Champions League clubs will be interested in luring Mac Allister away from Brighton, but he signed a new contract prior to the World Cup and will not be cheap.

According to Carlos Mac Allister, the new agreement was put in place so that Brighton could get the highest possible price for his son, so bids are expected, but they will have to be massive to be successful.

‘For the time being, he is at Brighton,’ Carlos told TyC Sports. ‘It appears to me to be a very good thing that he has returned from the World Cup and has not been discouraged about leaving, enjoying success calmly and peacefully in a team that adores him. He has received the warmest welcome. He performs admirably in the club.

‘We are all aware that there will be opportunities to leave in July. However, prior to the World Cup, Alexis renewed his contract, allowing the club to make an important transfer, allowing a lot to reach Brighton. It’s the concept.’

Speaking last month, Mac Allister said he is no hurry at all to leave Brighton, telling Sky Sports: ‘I’m focused on Brighton. I’m very happy here, and I look forward to every day.

‘They understand how grateful I am to this club, and I have no plans to leave.’
