France head coach Didier Deschamps is reportedly planning on benching Olivier Giroud against Argentina on Sunday in the Qatar World Cup final.

Should Deschamps go ahead and drop the AC Milan forward, it would be one of the biggest gambles the France coach has made this competition so far, given the forward’s current form.

Giroud is among the highest top goalscorers in the World Cup, having scored four times leading Les Bleus attack and he’s one goal behind leading goalscorers Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

Reports are suggesting that Deschamps wants to start Mbappe at the No.9 position, which would create room for Marcus Thuran to operate at Mbappe’s original position, LW.

Thuran has played more as a midfielder, although he has made some interesting memories playing from the left wing at club level.

The same report also confirmed that every player was present at France training on Saturday, including the sick or injured players.

Argentina boss Scaloni is also planning on going with a three centre-backs of Nicolas Otamendi, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Romero after he practiced with the trio on Friday.

The World Cup final is obviously going to be a tactical battle between both coaches and according to many, games as big as this are decided by fine margins.
