Lega Serie A have officially announced the start and end dates for the 2023-24 season, with a later start date than usual.

The next campaign of Serie A will start on Sunday, August 20, 2023, and will end on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

Top five favourites to win the 2023/2024 Serie A title

Atalanta

Gli Orobici are regarded as one of the teams that can challenge Napoli for the Serie A title next season, having impressed in recent seasons.

Atalanta had only finished outside the top four twice in the last six seasons. I Nerazzurri finished 3rd in the 2020/2021 but somehow finished in the 8th position the last two seasons.

The Black and Blue side improved on their form and finished inside the top-four last season and in no doubt, they will attempt to challenge for the Serie A title next season. Atalanta‘s strength lies on their attack. They are a good goal scoring side and last season, they scored over 80 goals.

The season they finished 8th, they managed 65 goals regardless. Scoring goals hasn’t been their issue and sometimes, that’s what a team needs to win the top honours. Atalanta’s weakness? They are somewhat dreadful at the back. They conceded 48 goals in the 2020/2021 season and conceded over 30 goals last season.

AC Milan

Milan have finished inside the top four in the last three seasons. They won the Serie A last two seasons with 86 points, ahead of Inter Milan by two points.

Before winning the league, they finished 2nd in the 2020/2021 season behind Inter Milan. Last season, they finished in the top four, although it was a rollercoaster season for the Red and Black side.

AC Milan have been touted as one of the potential favourites to win the Serie A title in the past three seasons and it didn’t come as a surprise when bookmakers identified them as one of the teams that can stop Napoli from winning the title back-to-back, thanks to the quality in their attack and defence.

Juventus

If there’s only one team that can challenge Napoli toe to toe for the 2023/2024 Serie A title, then it has to be Juventus. The Black and White side may have struggled in the past two seasons, but their class remains permanent.

Juventus may have last won the Serie A title in the 2019/2020 season, but they head into every season as one of the favourites to win the Serie A.

They finished in the top four last season, just like every other season and following the number of recruitments they made over the summer, the Old Lady are clearly going to go all out to challenge for the title.

Inter Milan

I Nerazzurri are one of the teams that can potentially finish the season as the 2023/2024 Serie A winners. Inter finished in the top four last season and have managed the same at least in the last three seasons.

Inter Milan won the competition in the 2020/2021 season with 91 points and failed to retain their title after they finished two points behind AC Milan in the 2021/2022 season.

I Nerazzurri are good going forward, although their backline wasn’t as strong as the previous seasons, for this reason, they finished 3rd.

Napoli

The Naples finished as the 2022/2023 Serie A winners after a string of brilliant performances. Napoli headed into the World Cup break without a defeat, although they had played 15 league games.

Gli Azzurri won 13 out of their first 15 league matches and they continued where they left off after club action returned following the completion of the 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup, for this reason, they finished as the champions.

Napoli head into the new season as the top favourites to retain their title and they obviously remain the team the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Atalanta to beat.

Top five Dark Horses in the Serie A title race

Aside from the five teams mentioned above, there are a couple of teams that could go on and stun the favourites, thanks to how they managed last season.

AS Roma [6th last season]

Lazio [7th last season]

Fiorentina [9th last season]

Udinese [12th last season]

Bologna [13th last season]
