Brentford boss Thomas Frank has claimed that he and his boys massively believed they would face Manchester City at the Etihad and still get all the three points.

Thomas Frank admitted that he was speechless after Brentford stunned Manchester City at the Etihad, although he claimed he massively believed his boys could get the win.

Brentford raised many eye-brows when they staged a resounding 2-1 win over the reigning Premier League champions during lunchtime on Saturday.

Ivan Toney opened the scoring early in the game but his effort was dragged back after Phil Foden scored on the stroke of half-time, handing Akanji a rare assist.

Although Manchester City dominated the game, they couldn’t create many clear-cut chances to complete their comeback, which eventually handed the Bees the chance to steal the show in the last minute of the ten additional minutes when Ivan Toney scored his second goal of the game.

Thomas Frank was really pleased with his team’s performance at the Etihad and exaggerated that the win is, in no doubt, the biggest single win in the history of Brentford FC.

Speaking after the win, the manager told Brentford’s official website: “I was actually speechless in the dressing room. I had to say some nice things to the players but that was [wow]…

“I would like to say, we came here with the aim to try and win the game. We never go into any game to try and minimise the defeat and we massively believed that [we could get a result].

“The players know what I said before the game, we then had half-time, there was a late equaliser in the first half, we could be a little bit disappointed.

“Then I said, ‘Guys, you’re never going to have a bigger chance of winning at the Etihad than today’, because we just felt we were on top of the game.

“I know we defended a lot, but the performance we put out here… maybe it’s the one, single biggest result in the Club’s history. Not the most important one – that was others, the Play-Off final was another one.

“But a single result, against probably the best team in the world, they played their strongest line-up today, we are missing four players, the difference in budget is crazy, and then we perform and won, well-deserved, that is amazing.”
