Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has named the three countries he feels are the favourites to lift the 2022 World Cup in Russia.

According to bookmakers, the likes of Germany, Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Portugal, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and England are the top favourites to lift the most prestigious competition in football in December.

Van Dijk believes only three of the mentioned countries above have the best chances of lifting the World Cup, thanks to the number of quality players in their squad.

Speaking ahead of the Netherlands’ World Cup opener against Senegal, he said: “World Cup favorites? Argentina, Brazil & France.”

Van Dijk has described Holland’s game against Senegal as a ‘huge’ game, saying: “This was important for us and it gave us a nice feeling.

“Though I would have preferred to do this without all the journalists and camera’s around. Now our focus returns to the game vs Senegal, a huge game against the champions of Africa.”
