In the upcoming summer transfer window, Chelsea FC is reportedly leading the race to sign the Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

The news comes from a reputable source in Italy, SempreInter , who stated that Chelsea has expressed the most significant interest in securing the stopper’s services.

It is no secret that Chelsea is keen on bolstering their squad with a new goalkeeper, and acquiring Onana appears to be high on their priority list. While both of Chelsea’s current goalkeepers have been talked up as potential swap options for Onana, it seems that the London-based club will need to dig deep into their pockets to secure the 25-year-old.

According to the report from Sempre Inter, Inter Milan has no interest in a trade deal and is looking for a straight cash offer for their ‘excellent’ goalkeeper. However, this has not deterred Chelsea from pursuing their target, and it is understood that the club is willing to pay the asking price to secure Onana’s signature.

Onana has established himself as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Europe, having played a crucial role in Ajax’s impressive run to the Champions League semi-finals in the 2018-19 season. The Cameroonian has continued to impress since then, making 204 appearances for Ajax in all competitions and earning 18 caps for his national team.

Should the transfer materialize, Onana would add much-needed depth to Chelsea’s goalkeeping department and provide competition for the current number one, Edouard Mendy.
