Bayern Munich will be on the lookout for a new head coach ahead of the new season as it was confirmed Thomas Tuchel will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Xabi Alonso is currently among the favorites to replace Tuchel at Bayern.

Tuchel was appointed as Bayern’s head coach back in March 2023. The German coach became Bundesliga winner last season, however, during this season they could miss out on the title to Bayer Leverkusen.

Currently, Leverkusen lead the league table with 8 points ahead of Bayern.

The announcement of former Chelsea manager leaving Munich comes following the club’s recent poor form. Bayern have suffered three defeats in their last five games, one of which was against Lazio in the Champions League.

So let’s take a look at the possible candidates who could replace Tuchel at Bayern Munich.

Three possible options for Bayern Munich as Thomas Tuchel replacement

Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso seems like a perfect candidate to replace Tuchel at Bayern after his impressive results with Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso has started his coaching career in 2018 having coached Real Madrid U14 and then Real Sociedad B. Leverkusen became his first senior team to coach and his results didn’t disappoint. Alonso is close to winning Bundesliga title as a manager.

In his final years as a professional footballer, he played for Bayern and secured three consecutive Bundesliga titles during his three-year tenure with the club.

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and would be a good option to replace Tuchel with his past experiences at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.  However, Klopp’s agent played down any chance to join Bayern.

He said: “Jurgen Klopp will not coach any club or national team for a year after this current season. That remains unchanged.”

Jose Mourinho

Mourinho is currently a free agent after being sacked by Roma. The Portuguese manager has a rich managerial legacy as he has coached numerous top European clubs. Bundesliga is a league where Mourinho doesn’t have any experience, so it would be interesting to see the Special One taking on the role of a head coach at Bayern.
