The IIHF will decide on the venue for the 2021 Ice Hockey World Championship by the end of January, as R-Sport reports.
According to the source, the decision will be made at the level of the IIHF Council by the end of January, however, the exact date of the meeting next month has not yet been determined.
It is reported that the main problem is whether there will be a replacement for Belarus, since Latvia will not be able to host the tournament, it cannot be held in Russia, and there has not been any contact with other countries yet.
The Latvian authorities have already announced that they will not hold the World Cup together with Belarus due to the political crisis in their respective countries.
In turn, the Ice Hockey Federation of Belarus claimed that the country is ready to host the tournament on its own.
The Ice Hockey World Championship is due to be held in Riga and Minsk from May 21 to June 6, 2021.
