In Diego Simeone’s strategic vision for Atletico Madrid, there is a desire to reinforce the team’s midfield by adding another pivot. Currently, Koke has been holding down that position admirably, but Simeone recognizes the need for a reliable backup, especially to provide cover during periods when the seasoned 31-year-old requires rest.

According to recent reports from Todo Fichajes , Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny has emerged as a potential, cost-effective solution to bolster Atletico’s midfield depth. The experienced Egyptian midfielder, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, presents an opportunity for Atletico to secure his services in January and avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Despite Elneny’s limited playing time this season—clocking in at just 71 minutes across four games—his versatility and ability to slot into the number six position have caught the attention of Simeone. Notably, his cameo appearance against PSV Eindhoven in Arsenal’s final Champions League match showcased his capabilities.

It’s worth noting that Elneny’s future at Arsenal seems uncertain, given his peripheral role under manager Mikel Arteta. The 31-year-old’s potential departure in January could benefit both parties, with Arsenal having the last chance to secure a transfer fee for the player.

While Simeone appears to have Elneny on his radar, whether Atletico Madrid will make an official move for the midfielder remains speculative. As the January transfer window approaches, the football world awaits further developments to see if this particular midfield reinforcement comes to fruition for the La Liga side.
