Real Madrid’s defense of their La Liga title was dealt a significant blow on Saturday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid. The result has left the door wide open for league leaders Barcelona to widen the gap at the top to ten points if they secure a victory against UD Almeria.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men face a challenging run of fixtures ahead, with their next match scheduled against Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis at the Estadio Benito Villamarin. Unfortunately for the defending champions, they will be without the services of their key midfielder, Luka Modric.

The 37-year-old has been ruled out of the forthcoming fixture against Los Verdiblancos after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season during the clash against Atletico. As per La Liga rules, Modric’s booking incurs an automatic one-match ban, rendering him unavailable for selection.

Modric’s absence is sure to be felt by Ancelotti and his team, as matches against Betis are never straightforward, and the experienced Croatian midfielder would have provided a vital presence in the center of the park.

However, despite the setback, Ancelotti has a plethora of options to choose from in midfield, including Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Federico Valverde.

Modric has featured in 33 matches for Real Madrid this season, with a commendable tally of six goals and five assists to his name. However, with less than five months remaining on his contract, his future with the club remains uncertain.

In conclusion, Real Madrid’s clash against Real Betis promises to be a challenging fixture, made even more difficult by the absence of Modric.

Nonetheless, the Spanish giants boast a formidable midfield unit, and Ancelotti will undoubtedly look to rally his troops to secure a crucial victory.
