Real Madrid’s hopes of finishing the season with a clean bill of health have been dashed with the news that left-back Ferland Mendy has suffered a calf injury in training. The French defender had only recently returned to the side before the international break, but has now broken down once again.

The severity of Mendy’s injury has not been disclosed by Real Madrid, but reports suggest that the 27-year-old could be out of action for up to a month. This leaves Carlo Ancelotti without a key defensive piece for crucial upcoming fixtures, including the Copa del Rey match against Barcelona and the Champions League quarter-final clash against Chelsea.

Mendy has already missed eight of Real Madrid’s last nine La Liga games due to injury, and it looks likely that he will be absent for most of the second half of the season. The left-back will also be sidelined for games against Real Valladolid, Villarreal, Cadiz, Celta Vigo, Girona, and Almeria.

The loss of Mendy is a significant blow for Real Madrid, as the defender has been an integral part of the team’s success this season. His absence will force Ancelotti to reorganize his defensive setup, and the Italian manager will be hoping that his squad can step up in Mendy’s absence and continue their push for silverware.
