Real Madrid is rumored to be preparing a substantial €70 million offer in their pursuit of 22-year-old French talent William Saliba, who currently plies his trade at Arsenal. Reports from reputable sources, such as the Spanish outlet Fichajes, suggest that the La Liga giants have set their sights on the young center-back due to Eder Militao’s prolonged absence from the squad.

William Saliba has undeniably made a significant impact in the Premier League over the past year, despite his somewhat tumultuous journey since joining Arsenal from Saint-Etienne. His loan spells with Saint-Etienne, OGC Nice, and Marseille have contributed to his development, and he has now become an integral part of Arsenal’s defensive setup.

The French international has notched up an impressive 41 appearances for the Gunners, showcasing his versatility by chipping in with three goals and two assists. These performances have inevitably attracted the attention of Real Madrid, among other suitors.

It’s worth noting that Real Madrid’s interest in Saliba isn’t a new development. During the summer transfer window, they considered making a move for him but were unsuccessful as the player opted to extend his contract with Arsenal. Nevertheless, Real Madrid has continued to monitor his progress closely, primarily due to their pressing need for defensive reinforcement.

Eder Militao’s long-term injury has left a void in Real Madrid’s defensive ranks, and with David Alaba entering the twilight years of his illustrious career, the need for fresh defensive talent is evident. Additionally, Bayern Munich’s interest in Antonio Rudiger has raised concerns, prompting Real Madrid to seek a younger alternative.

Saliba, therefore, emerges as a promising option for Real Madrid, and their reported willingness to part with €70 million in 2024 underlines their determination to secure his services. However, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will entertain any offers for a player who has become a linchpin in their starting lineup at just 22 years of age.

Given Saliba’s vital role at the Emirates, it’s a challenging prospect for Real Madrid to lure him away from Arsenal, whether in the upcoming January transfer window or the subsequent summer window.
