Alpin reserve driver Oscar Piastri has commented on the news that he will be the team’s prize driver in Formula One next season.
The Alpin team released an official statement announcing the signing of Piastri to replace Fernando Alonso.
At the same time, the official press release did not include any quotes from Piastri – although usually the driver always expresses his position in such statements.
However, Piastri himself said on his social media accounts that he has no intention of competing for Alpin next season:
“I understand that the Alpin team, without my consent, issued an official statement this afternoon announcing that I will be competing in its line-up next season.
This announcement is untrue, I have not signed a contract with Alpin to race in 2023. I will not be racing for Alpin next season.
It was previously reported that Piastri could have already signed a tentative contract to move to McLaren.
