Paul Scholes admits Cristiano Ronaldo could have scored goals against Omonia on Thursday night but concedes the Portuguese star will hit the strides

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has predicted that Cristiano Ronaldo will start scoring goals again after his drab performance against Omonia.

Erik ten Hag, who left Ronaldo on the bench during last weekend’s 6-3 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League,  started the Portuguese star against Omonia on Thursday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a few chances to break the deadlock in the first half but failed to beat the opposition goalkeeper. Late in the game, he had a string of big chances but again, he couldn’t convert any one in, whereas Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial came on in the second half and scored with their first strike.

His struggles in the face of goal has sparked different ideas, with several Ronaldo fans finally admitting that the 37-year-old isn’t the kind of force he was once.

But Scholes, who admitted that Ronaldo was poor at Omonia, isn’t giving up on the Portugal skipper, insisting that the striker will get back to his goal scoring form again and will score against Everton if he gets playing time.

“He had a lot of chances tonight which he didn’t score but that won’t happen for long with Cristiano. If he gets chances on Sunday he will score,” Scholes told BT Sport.

Manchester United will play visitors to Everton on Sunday in the Premier League and that will present a chance for Erik ten Hag’s Reds to bounce back to winning ways in the league.

United lost their last league game 6-3 to Manchester City but they are determined to put that behind them when they come up against the Toffees at Goodison Park.
