Manchester United will take a trip to Cyprus to face struggling Omonia on Thursday night in the Europa League group stage
Manchester United will look to put last weekend’s trauma behind them when they face Omonia on Thursday in the Europa League.
Man United got dismantled 6-3 by their city rivals Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League, following two hat-tricks from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.
Looking ahead of last weekend’s defeat, the Red Devils have a chance to bounce back to winning ways against Omonia before their next league game against Everton.
Erik ten Hag is expected to make loads of changes to the starting lineup that lost heavily to Manchester City, which could see the likes of Victor Lindelof, Tom Heaton, Casemiro and others coming back into the lineup.
Cristiano Ronaldo is also expected to return to the team after he was left on the bench against City last weekend. A decision that attracted loads of criticism to Ten Hag.
The Red Devils are increasingly likely to be without Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane due to injury issues. Maguire suffered a hamstring injury during England’s 3-3 draw against Germany last week. Varane sustained a foot injury against Manchester City and was hauled off before half-time. The injury is not expected to keep him out of action for a long time, reports claimed.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has missed United’s last two games due to injury issues and could miss the trip to Cyprus as well after there was no sign of him in training on Monday and Tuesday.
Erik ten Hag will have his press today and he would provide more updates on how his team is shaping for what would be their third group stage in the Europa League this season.
Goalkeeper: Tom Heaton
Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw
Midfielders: Casemior, Fred, Christian Eriksen
Forwards: Antony, Ronaldo, Martial
Man United are expected to take all three points off Omonia on Thursday night to catch up with group leaders Real Sociedad, who have won their opening two games. United have won five from their last seven games in all competitions, which is enough for Omonia to handle.
This fixture is expected to produce over three goals. Manchester United have scored eight goals in their last three games in all competitions and have two goals in two Europa League games.
Omonia are playing at home and due to the absence of Varane, they could get a consolation goal. It’s a high task for the Cyprus but it’s not impossible, given how United’s back line got exposed by Manchester City.
