Following his metatarsal injury against Sevilla, Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez has taken to social media to release a statement.
Manchester United’s Europa League quarter-final clash with Sevilla has left them with a serious injury concern after star centre-back Lisandro Martinez was forced off the pitch with a metatarsal injury.
The Argentinian was seen clutching his ankle in the latter stages of the match before being carried off by international teammates Gonzalo Montiel and Marcos Acuna. Concerns over the extent of Martinez’s injury were heightened by the fact that he went down without any pressure from an opponent.
Speaking after the match, Manager Erik ten Hag was unable to provide any further detail on the extent of the injury, but the club has since confirmed that the defender has fractured a metatarsal bone in his foot. Martinez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, which comes as a major blow to United.
In response to the setback, Martinez took to social media to express his disappointment and thank his fans for their support. In an Instagram post, he wrote, “Not the way I imagined what’s been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them.”
Despite the setback, Martinez remains positive and has vowed to return stronger. “I know that I’ll be back very soon to go for more. In the meantime, I’ll continue to support all my teammates to achieve our objectives,” he added.
Manchester United will now have to cope without one of their key players for the remainder of the season as they look to finish strongly in the league.
