The 40th-ranked Australian Nick Kyrgios, who automatically reached the Wimbledon final after eliminating 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal from the semi-finals, has set a unique achievement. Kyrgios became the first player in the Open era (since 1968) to reach a Wimbledon final without playing a semi-final.

At other Grand Slam tournaments, this has happened twice in the Open era: Steffi Graf reached the 1988 US Open final after Chris Evert was eliminated from the semi-finals, and Jim Currier reached the 1992 Australian Open final after Richard Krajicek was eliminated.

As a reminder, the other Wimbledon 2022 semi-final will be played between Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie. The match will take place today, July 8.
