Football Insider reports that Newcastle is closely monitoring the situations of two left-backs – Kieran Tierney of Arsenal and Antonee Robinson.
Newcastle United is on the hunt for a new left-back, with Kieran Tierney and Antonee Robinson emerging as potential targets.
According to Football Insider , the club is closely monitoring the situations of the two players as it seeks to bolster its defensive options ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Magpies have struggled with consistency in the left-back position this season, with Matt Targett struggling with injuries, Jamal Lewis failing to impress, and Dan Burn, who was initially signed to play at center-back, having his limitations going forward and being occasionally troubled by the pace of Premier League wingers.
Tierney, who joined Arsenal in 2019, has found himself playing second fiddle to Oleksandr Zinchenko this season and could be keen to secure first-team football elsewhere.
However, the Scottish international’s injury record could be a concern for Newcastle, as he missed the final 10 games of last season due to knee surgery
On the other hand, Robinson has been one of Fulham’s most consistent performers this season, using his pace and impressive engine to help propel the club up to sixth place in the Championship table.
The United States international could provide a more mobile alternative for Newcastle, giving Steve Bruce another option at left-back.
Despite the interest in new signings, the club is also believed to be considering a new contract for Burn, who has impressed with his defensive prowess but may not offer the attacking threat that Newcastle requires going forward.
As the summer transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen which direction the club will take as it seeks to strengthen its backline for the new season.
