Newcastle United is reportedly eyeing AC Milan winger Rafael Leao for a summer transfer, despite the player’s recent struggles in Serie A.

Despite having signed a new contract with the Italian club last summer, which includes a substantial £150 million release clause, Leao’s future at the San Siro has been subject to persistent speculation. The 24-year-old Portuguese international, who showcased his skills in Milan’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United this season, appears to be seeking a new challenge.

Despite the rumors surrounding Leao’s departure, Newcastle remains keen on securing his services. Notably, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is also expressing interest in the winger, despite his previous stint with LOSC Lille. Leao seems poised for a change, and the allure of the Premier League could present an enticing opportunity for the Serie A attacker.

However, given Newcastle’s current standing in the Premier League and their financial constraints, it seems challenging for the club to outmaneuver competitors in securing Leao.

While the PIF owners theoretically have significant financial resources, the reality of the club’s financial situation necessitates cautious spending and prudent financial management. In a scenario where financial constraints were not a concern, Leao could indeed be a valuable addition to the squad.

Complicating matters, recent speculation links Bruno Guimaraes, one of Newcastle’s key assets, with a potential departure from the club. As the club navigates these considerations, achieving a delicate balance between strengthening the squad and financial stability becomes paramount for Newcastle United.
