Newcastle United’s star forward Miguel Almiron is still on track to return to the pitch in the next four weeks, according to the club’s head coach, Eddie Howe. The Paraguayan international suffered a thigh injury during training in February and was initially expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Fans were hopeful of an early return when pictures emerged of Almiron running during the international break. However, Howe confirmed that there has been no change to the expected return date. Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s Sunday fixture against Manchester United, the coach revealed that the player is making good progress and is currently pain-free.

“I’d love him to beat the timescale given, but I just don’t see it currently,” Howe stated. “He’s making really good progress. I think it’s just a case of that’s the time it will take for the muscle to fully heal. So I think we’re four weeks off, maybe slightly less.”

Almiron, who has netted 11 goals for the Magpies so far this season, is a key player for the team and his absence has been felt in recent games. However, Howe will be relieved that the player is on track for a timely comeback as Newcastle look to secure their Premier League status for next season.
