Mikel Arteta has confirmed that he may not a long time spell at Arsenal unlike Arsene Wenger.
Following interest from Barcelona, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has shared that it’s actually possible that he may some day be shown the exit door by the higher powers at Emirates Stadium.
The former City assistant manager has led Arsenal into their best Premier League start since Arsene Wenger with all hopes now sighting towards them producing a sensational trophy winning season.
Despite being the youngest manager in the Premier League currently, Mikel Arteta’s short term experience doesn’t deny him the fact that he may some day be sacked from the club where all seems to be going well at the moment.
“As a manager, probably it’s the (biggest) fear of getting sacked,” he said in a podcast. “I made a very conscious decision the day I made the decision to become a coach – I said: ‘It will happen. Today, tomorrow, in a month’s time, in 10 years’ time. I don’t know when it will happen.’
“That cannot drive my emotion and this cannot be the reason why I do certain things or not. For me now the fear is to let people down.”
With things yet to turn bad at North London, the former Barcelona midfielder could actually make the first blow amid interest from his Catalan friends who are reportedly considering him as a future option.
As per Spanish media, Arteta has gradually come up the list as a potential replacement to the shaking Xavi era with the side knocked out of the UEFA Champions League group stage for the second consecutive time.
However, Barcelona are currently solid behind Xavi who they believe will turn the tables before the end of the current season, but should things remain unchanged then a change may be forced.
Mikel Arteta knows what a spot in the backroom of Camp Nou actually means as he reflected on the option earlier last year during the club’s presidential election.
“There is always going to be speculation when there are elections in Barcelona. It’s a huge team and obviously, I was raised there as a player, and they’re always going to be linked,” Arteta said.
“But I’m fully focused on the job that I have to do here. We have a lot to do and I’m really enjoying it. I feel privileged to manage this football club and I’m extremely happy.”
