Micah Richards has admitted he feels sorry for Martin Odegaard, claiming the Arsenal star is unlikely to win the Player of the Season award this term.
The Norwegian player has been exceptional for the Gunners during the 2022/23 campaign, helping the team to show impressive results and secure a Champions League spot for the next term.
Despite scoring 15 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season and being a key man at the Emirates Stadium, Richards believes Odegaard’s fellow countryman, Erling Haaland, may be the reason he doesn’t win the award.
“It’s a strange thing to have sympathy for someone after you have watched them light up your Sunday but that was my first feeling for Martin Odegaard, he wrote in his column on The Daily Mail.
“If it hadn’t been for Erling Haaland, Arsenal’s captain would be odds-on for Player of the Year.”
