Reece James limped off the pitch during Chelsea’s second leg clash against AC Milan last week and reports suggest he will be out for at least 6 weeks.

Chelsea managed to beat Aston Villa on Sunday with both goals coming from Mason Mount but a defensive consciousness helped the West Londoners stay afloat and according to Mount, Blues could slip from their current form amid the absence of Reece James.

Reece James has managed to become a very important member of the Chelsea squad, holding more starting than Cesar Azpilicueta since the arrival of the new boss, as he did same under the former boss.

Speaking after their game against Aston Villa, Mount said; “Reecey’s been absolutely brilliant this season. He’s stepped up. He’s one of the best players in the team.

“To see that happen to him, and as a very close friend of mine, it’s gutting, and you know what’s coming up as well. It’s a big loss for us.”

Further on his contributions in the Villa game, Mount continued; “We changed formation, and I changed position in the first half, going into the two in midfield as a six, trying to cope with what they were bringing. You have to be versatile. I have played loads of different positions.”
