Manchester United’s search for a short-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo in January led them to sign Dutch striker Wout Weghorst on loan from Besiktas. With the absence of Anthony Martial due to injury, United manager Erik ten Hag was in need of a reliable striker to start games every week.

During his time at United, Weghorst has impressed with his incredible work ethic and ability to hold up play, as well as his popularity among teammates. However, despite these positive attributes, recent reports suggest that the loanee is not expected to be signed on a permanent deal by the Red Devils.

According to a report by Football Insider , United do not have any obligation or option to purchase Weghorst outright from his parent club Burnley, meaning negotiations would have to take place if they were to change their stance.

The report also highlights Weghorst’s lack of goals, with just one in ten games, as a potential reason why United may not be interested in making the move permanent.

It remains to be seen if United will reconsider their decision in the future, but for now, Weghorst’s future at the club appears to be uncertain.
