Manchester United’s radar has reportedly honed in on the burgeoning talent of Joao Neves, the teenage sensation from Benfica who burst onto the scene last season. According to football journalist Gianluca DiMarzio, the Red Devils are contemplating a formidable assault to secure the services of the 18-year-old midfield prodigy.

Neves, a product of the revered Benfica youth academy, signed his maiden professional contract at Estadio da Luz in 2020, when he was merely 16 years old. Displaying remarkable progression, it took him a mere two years to make his long-awaited senior debut for the club. His moment arrived as a late substitute in an impressive 3-0 victory over Gil Vicente in December 2022.

While Neves initially enjoyed limited playing time, making cameo appearances, he gradually established himself as a regular starter in the latter stages of the previous campaign. Under the astute guidance of manager Roger Schmidt, he showcased his immense potential, making six starts in the Primeira Liga during the tail-end of the season.

Neves’ impact was not confined to domestic competitions alone, as he also caught the eye during Benfica’s foray into the UEFA Champions League knockout stages. The gifted midfielder made his presence felt, contributing an assist in a resounding 5-1 triumph over Club Brugge in the round of 16.

As the young Portuguese maestro continues to flourish, Manchester United’s interest in his services serves as a testament to his burgeoning reputation. With the allure of Old Trafford and the prospect of donning the iconic Red Devils jersey, a potential move could represent a significant step in Neves’ fledgling career, propelling him onto the grandest stage of European football.
