In an exclusive report by Ben Jacobs on GiveMeSport, it has come to light that Manchester United is hesitant to consider a reunion with former star goalkeeper David De Gea, who is currently without a club after his long-standing association with the Red Devils.

For over a decade, De Gea was the undisputed number one at Old Trafford, representing a relic of the era of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Premier League-winning side in 2013. Following the expiration of his contract in the summer, he remains a free agent, yet to commit to a new club.

At the heart of this situation is Andre Onana, who was signed to replace De Gea at the Theatre of Dreams. Onana’s journey at Manchester United has not been smooth, although he did manage to save a crucial last-minute penalty in the UEFA Champions League against FC Copenhagen.

Complicating matters is the fact that Onana will be unavailable for a significant portion of the season due to his commitments in the African Cup of Nations. Manchester United has alternative options in Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, but it’s evident that neither possesses the same qualities or experience as Onana, despite his initial struggles.

There were murmurs of a surprise return for De Gea to provide cover during Onana’s absence. However, Jacobs has brought forth an intriguing revelation: De Gea’s feelings about his departure from the club have left a bitter taste.

The player had committed his future to Manchester United before the club took a U-turn, causing understandable disappointment. It’s a scenario where one would expect a celebrated veteran to be treated more respectfully.

Jacobs goes on to add that both parties appear to have moved on, with their relationship seemingly at an impasse, and prospects of a reunion appear distant. What’s more, there were reports of unhappiness within the United dressing room over the handling of De Gea’s departure, making it a sensitive issue not to be revisited.
