Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Leeds United’s 22-year-old goalkeeper, Illan Meslier, as a possible replacement for current goalkeeper David De Gea.

Although a move for Meslier may not be imminent, Journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Manchester United view him as a potential long-term solution to their goalkeeping needs.

The Old Trafford club is said to be willing to wait until they can offer Meslier regular first-team football before making a move for him. Given their efforts to extend De Gea’s contract, it is possible that a raid on Elland Road for Meslier could come further down the line.

As it stands, Meslier is contracted to Leeds for the next three-and-a-half years, securing his future with the club until the summer of 2026.However, Manchester United’s reported interest suggests that the young Frenchman has caught the attention of one of the world’s biggest football clubs.

Although Manchester United have a strong record of developing world-class goalkeepers, with the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar, and De Gea himself, Meslier could be the next in line to join that elite group.

He has already shown great potential during his time at Leeds and could become a key player for the Red Devils in the years to come.
