The pursuit of Scalvini has been ongoing, fueled by the defender’s standout performances throughout the current season, attracting attention from various clubs.

According to reputable Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, as reported by Sport Italia, Manchester United approached Atalanta with an offer for Scalvini. However, the Italian club promptly rejected the proposal. Shedding light on the situation, Pedulla, known for his accurate transfer analyses and the first to disclose Sofyan Amrabat’s summer move to United, stated:

“There was a proposal from Manchester United for Giorgio Scalvini, rejected by Atalanta. It will take at least 60 million (£51.6million) to take him away from Bergamo, but in this session he will not leave, like Ederson and Koopmeiners.”

Scalvini, a 20-year-old talent, has already accumulated 78 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta and earned seven caps for the senior Italian national team.

It’s an open secret that Manchester United has faced defensive struggles this season. Erik ten Hag, the manager, is eager to bolster the squad with a top-quality defender. With uncertainties surrounding the future of Raphael Varane and underperformances from players like Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire, the need for defensive reinforcements is apparent.

In their quest to fortify the backline before the imminent closure of the winter transfer window in just over two weeks, Manchester United will need to explore alternative options. Atalanta remains resolute in holding onto Scalvini, valuing the promising talent at £51.6 million, making any potential move this month a challenging endeavor.
