In a highly anticipated pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Brentford, Erik ten Hag provided some significant updates regarding the squad’s condition and readiness.

Central to Ten Hag’s discussion was the potential inclusion of Lisandro Martinez back into the squad. “Yes, there is a chance [that he’s back in the squad]. We have missed him every game because he brings a composure in the team, a calmness in the team,” Ten Hag explained, highlighting Martinez’s integral role within the team’s dynamics.

The manager further elaborated on Martinez’s influence, stating, “At the same time, a winning attitude and he can express this very clearly. He can transfer that into the team and that contributes a lot to our levels.”

The good news extended beyond just Martinez, with Ten Hag hinting at more players making their return. “There are players returning, they are back on the pitch they are back in team training. We have one more training now. But it is most likely that we have some players back in the squad,” Ten Hag optimistically shared, indicating a boost in squad options for the upcoming fixtures.

Luke Shaw’s recovery and eventual return to the team were also subjects of Ten Hag’s briefing. “Yes, I expect him back before the end of the season, he is still on schedule and will return to our team,” Ten Hag assured, addressing concerns about Shaw’s availability and contributing to the positive mood surrounding the team’s health.

Reflecting on the international break, Ten Hag described it as beneficial. “It was a wonderful break. It is always good to go with a win into an international break, definitely with such a win,” he commented, acknowledging the positive impact of heading into the break on the back of a victory.

However, the return to club duties post-international break presents its challenges. “Players go on international duties, are in other teams, playing styles, systems, now they return and we have to get back where we were,” Ten Hag noted, underlining the task of reintegrating players into the club’s system swiftly.

Erik ten Hag’s confidence in the team’s readiness was palpable as he detailed the transition process from international to club football. “Get them back in our way of play, get them back in our team. Yesterday we started this process, it’s a short slot but we will be ready tomorrow,” he confidently stated, emphasizing the team’s adaptability and preparation.

Lastly, Ten Hag praised Kobbie Mainoo’s international performance with England, saying, “I thought it was very good [display for England] but we are not surprised.”
