Manchester United is reportedly eyeing Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak to replace struggling Andre Onana.
Having invested over €50 million in recruiting Onana from Inter Milan, the Premier League club is said to be dissatisfied with his goalkeeping prowess, attributing poor decision-making as a key factor in their Champions League exit this season.
Sources indicate that Manchester United is contemplating a swap deal, offering Onana in exchange for the experienced Jan Oblak. Todo Fichajes has exclusively reported that Atletico Madrid is open to considering bids for the 31-year-old star. Manchester United is rumored to be preparing an offer in the ballpark of £38.5 million (45 million euros), a sum deemed sufficient to entice the former Benfica goalkeeper.
Oblak’s impressive track record with the Colchoneros in La Liga, notably being named the top goalkeeper in the 2015–16 season and earning the title of La Liga’s Most Valuable Player in the 2020–21 championship-winning campaign, adds weight to Manchester United’s pursuit. The 60-cap international could potentially offer the Red Devils the much-needed stability in their goalkeeping department.
Meanwhile, Onana, who enjoyed a stellar season with Inter Milan leading to their Champions League final qualification, has faced challenges at Manchester United. Regarded as a significant disappointment this season, his struggles have prompted the club to seek a permanent solution to their goalkeeping dilemma.
Manchester United, recognizing the impact of this issue on their overall performance, seems poised to address it with the acquisition of a goalkeeper of Jan Oblak’s caliber.
