Manchester United are rumoured to be eyeing Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez as an alternative to Tottenham’s Harry Kane in their pursuit of a new front-man. As the Red Devils seek to bolster their attacking options this summer, Martinez appears to be an appealing prospect.

According to a report from Football Insider , the Argentina international could be acquired for a relatively modest sum of £70 million, as Inter seek to raise funds through player sales due to financial difficulties. Martinez has been a standout performer in Serie A and his arrival in the Premier League would no doubt generate considerable intrigue, though some United supporters may prefer the proven talent of Kane.

The challenge for Manchester United, however, would be negotiating with Tottenham, who are likely to be reluctant to part ways with their prized asset and keen to avoid strengthening a direct rival.

Should Kane prove unattainable, the acquisition of Martinez for a fee of £70 million would represent a shrewd piece of business for the club, particularly given the current inflated transfer market.

The 25-year-old has an impressive record of 95 goals in 228 games for Inter, and was a key player in their title-winning campaign in 2020/21.
