Manchester United and Liverpool have already begun negotiations for Randal Kolo Muani in the summer, but they will have to dig deep after Eintracht Frankfurt raised their asking price for the World Cup finalist.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool had quiet January transfer windows, but are expected to spend heavily in the summer to improve Erik ten Hag’s and Jurgen Klopp’s respective squads.

Both clubs will look to sign new forwards at the end of the season, with Ten Hag still looking for a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo and Klopp looking to reshape his struggling squad.

After being impressed by Kolo Muani’s development at Frankfurt, Premier League rivals have expressed interest in signing him.

This season, the 24-year-old has 13 goals and 10 assists and has performed admirably for France at the Qatar World Cup.

Kolo Muani scored in France’s semi-final victory over Morocco and then impressed as a first-half substitute in the final.

Kolo Muani has scored four goals in four games since returning from Qatar, helping Frankfurt climb to fifth in the Bundesliga table.

His form has piqued the interest of several major European clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

Kolo Muani is said to be interested in joining Manchester United or Liverpool, but Eintracht Frankfurt is demanding a large fee for the talented forward.

The German club had initially sought around 80 million euros for Kolo Muani, but L’Equipe reports that they are now seeking 100 million euros (£89 million), making him one of the most expensive Premier League signings in history.

Manchester United and Liverpool are having very different seasons, with the Red Devils breaking into the top four and reaching the EFL Cup final under Ten Hag.

However, Liverpool, who came close to winning the quadruple last season, has dropped to 10th place in the Premier League, 11 points outside the Champions League places.

Danny Murphy, an ex-Liverpool midfielder, believes Klopp should oversee a summer’rebuild’ at the end of the season, with the club’s priority being to sign at least one new midfielder.

‘It would be stupid of me not to be shocked and surprised at how far they’ve regressed in such a short period of time,’ Murphy told talkSPORT. ‘We’re talking about a team that came close to winning the quad last season.

‘They don’t look at it, and they don’t appear to have many legs or hunger. They are missing players, of course, but they had some of those players earlier in the season and the results were the same.

‘I believe a rebuild is required, with players leaving and new ones coming in.

‘Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is out of contract, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Naby Keita left; I’m not sure James Milner will stay for another year, and even if he does, he won’t play much – that’s three midfielders potentially leaving.

‘The midfield needs to be refreshed, and I would love to see Bellingham come in because he is exactly what Liverpool requires. But I don’t think they need just one; I think they need two.

‘I’d recommend Bellingham and Rice. I’d try to get both of them. So why not? Go all-in on two big signings rather than four or five.

‘Walking into that midfield with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham… that’s exciting.’
